Flickr Photostream Friday: Mercedes.. Life as I Pictured

Photography isn’t always about how bad-ass your camera is, or how many flashes you can cram into a scene. It’s inherently about seeing something that no one else sees, and then showing the world your vision. Mercedes Ramirez Guerrero, this week’s featured featured Flickr member, displays this practice very clearly. Her work is mainly photo journalistic in style and approach. By looking through her ‘stream, you can tell she carries her dSLR with her everywhere. Some of life’s smallest and significant moments could not have been recorded if she didn’t. Continue reading »

Atlanta, The Elusive Mirage

Atlanta, Georgia. Home to The Braves, juicy peaches, and some well known southern hippity-hoppers. I’ve probably been there close to twenty times over the last two decades, but I’ve never seen this city with my own eyes. Continue reading »

Flickr Photostream Friday: Ragstatic

Its the last day of the year and I’d like to bless you all with some eye candy. Flickr user Ragstatic is one of my favorite contacts. He shoots with the mighty full-frame Nikon D700, and almost exclusively in super wide angles. Rags shoots mostly landscapes primarily in India and Southeast Asia. He is a master of composition, and manages to process High Dynamic Range very tastefully, often from a single exposure. But forget all the nerdy stuff, this guy produces some of the most awe-inspiring images I’ve ever seen. The colors are always bright and vibrant, but never feel overly saturated. Rags firmly understands how to make his camera and post-processing software see what the human eye sees and beyond. This is the caliber of images that grace the pages of high profile publications. Like most of us, Mr. Eddie Velasquez began taking pictures for leisure and found that he really enjoyed it. He now works as a part time freelance photographer in Anaheim Hills, California. His commercial work is comprised mostly of portraiture and product photography, but his interests also include architecture, landscapes and Motorsports (my kind of guy!). Eddie’s black and whites are very nice, but I’m particularly drawn to his colors, and gorgeous models. California always looks great when you’re in a New York winter!  Head on over to Flickr and check out his photos. You won’t be disappointed.

Be A Better Vacation Photographer

We’ve all been there. You go on vacation armed with either your point-&-shoot or your shiny new DSLR and you shoot the crap out of anything you see that’s mildly interesting. But when you get home, you’ve got 3,000 pictures, and 2,500 of them are of the same 5 clouds. Photography blog Mostly Lisa discusses what steps you can take to minimize the stress during and after your vacation, so that you can actually enjoy it and come back with good photos. Geotagging the USA

Since aquiring the Nikon GPS-1 for my D300 in February, I’ve made it a point to start tagging all my shots whenever I venture outside New York. GPS tagging for photos has been available to consumers and prosumers for a few years, and while some believe its unnecessary or even gimmicky, I find it rewarding and useful. Continue reading »
